What is Reiki Therapy?

reiki therapy

Reiki is a spiritual healing art with its roots in Japanese origin. The word Reiki comes from the Japanese words "Rei" which means "Universal Life" and "Ki" which means "Energy". Reiki is not affiliated with any particular religion or religious practice. It is not massage, nor is it based on belief or suggestion. It is a subtle and effective form of energy work using spiritually guided life force energy.

Reiki is the life energy that flows through all living things. Reiki Therapy Practitioners understand that everyone has the ability to connect with their own healing energy and use it to strengthen energy in themselves and help others. It is believed that a person’s “ki” or energy should be strong and free flowing. When this is true a person’s body and mind is in a positive state of health. When the energy becomes weak or blocked it could lead to symptoms of physical or emotional imbalance.

"Lisa is a certified Reiki Therapy practitioner trained by the world-renowned expert Pamela Miles. She considers Reiki therapy a gift for her clients, as it serves as a gateway to the body's energy systems, chakras, and unconscious emotions. Many high-level, highly educated, high-functioning, and successful individuals, as well as those who are traumatized, anxious, or stressed, often do not tap into these aspects."

A Reiki Therapy session is usually 60 to 90 minutes long. It can help ease tension and stress and can help support the body to facilitate an environment for healing on all levels – physical, mental, and emotional. A session is more often than not pleasant and relaxing, at other times can bring up emotions like anger and sadness which is then processed with the Reiki Practitioner in a traditional psychotherapeutic session.

During a Reiki therapy session, the client will either rest on a massage table on their back with their shoes removed or sit comfortably in a chair. Unlike massage therapy, clients remain fully clothed, and it's suggested to wear loose, comfortable clothing. The session can be hands-on, involving light touch, or hands-off, with the practitioner holding their hands slightly above the body. If you prefer not to be touched, please let me know before we begin.

The Reiki Therapy Session will then proceed with the Reiki practitioner moving through specific standard hand positions, starting at the head or feet. Clients may experience a warming sensation, tingling, or simply deep relaxation during the session. Overall, clients leave the Reiki therapy session feeling relaxed, centered, and at peace.
